Tenryû is found in the west of Shizuoka Prefecture, in the mountains to the north of Hamamatsu City.
In Misakubo, at 650 m (2130 ft) in altitude, on land very rich in minerals, Mr. Fujinaga grows this splendid mountain sencha without the help of pesticides or chemical fertilizers.
The fragrance is delicate, but rich, full of promise, a little sweet and vegetal, creamy.
The first attack in the mouth reveals a powerful liquor, with a very good balance between sweetness and light astringency. It is a strong but airy liquor, which slips down the throat like satin, with aromas of cream and nuts. The aftertaste is also very assertive, initially slightly raw, but then transforming, little by little into something more mellow, sweeter, with umami. We can linger over the flavour because this sencha is so long in the mouth.
The complexity and subtlety of this sencha from Tenryû may be surprising in a tea grown under organic conditions, and yet we also perceive the proximity of the high-quality land, which makes it possible to farm in this way, and once again we have to admire the famous Yabukita cultivar.
