There has been a great deal of talk about the young producer, Matsukawa Yôhei from Mariko in Shizuoka, with respect to his very early Kondô-wase cultivar, but he also grows other teas.
The Kanaya-midori cultivar is well-known for its very special creamy fragrance, although in many cases that typical scent remains discreet. However, this is not the case with this sencha: the Kanaya-midori fragrances come out strongly.
The dry leaves already exhale creamy, sweet, slightly mineral scents. As soon as the leaves start to open in the teapot when they are infusing, this cultivar’s incredible fragrance of sweet milk fills the room. In the mouth, the liquor is relatively mellow and light, not too overpowering. It combines delicate creamy aromas with a slight citrus impression.
The aftertaste is mellow, playing more on sweetness than on umami, but it becomes more intense as time goes by.
This sencha is very round in the mouth. It is not aggressive, but its nose provides us with an incredibly clear, exemplary experience of the characteristics of Kanaya-midori.

  • Quantity of leaves: 4g / 1.3 tsp
  • Quantity of water : 70 ml / 1/4 cup
  • Water temperature : 70°C / 156°F
  • Brewing time : 60-70s
