This introductory set comprises five very different Japanese teas of very high quality. None of these teas are mass consumption teas, such as hôji-cha or genmaicha; and very specialized teas, such as matcha, have also been left aside. This set is thus a gateway into the world of great Japanese tea, iconic products of the major cultivars and the land where they are grown.

1-A Sencha from Ôkawa-Ôma in Hon.yama, Yabukita cultivar (40 g / 1.4 oz)
A fine, traditionally steamed mountain sencha.

1-B Fukamushi sencha from Yame, Oku-yutaka cultivar (40 g / 1.4 oz)
A deep-steamed sencha, typical of senchas from Yame.

1-C Gyokuro from Uji-tawara, Gokô cultivar (20 g / 0.7 oz)
A “genuine” gyokuro, handpicked from unpruned tea trees that were shaded under trellis tents.

1-D Kabuse-cha from Uji-tawara, Gokô cultivar (40 g / 1.4 oz)
Kabuse tea is shaded for a shorter period than gyokuro, and in this case the tea trees were covered directly.

1-E Kama-iri cha from Takachiho, Mine kaori cultivar (40 g / 1.4 oz)
Green tea that was roasted, not steamed, like other Japanese teas. This one is very distinctive.
