Mr. Masui, from the Aobe area in Kawane, is very well known for his black teas and senchas, for which he exploits the possibilities of the leaf wilting process. However, his Yabukita is made in the most classical sencha tradition, without wilting. The result is an excellent sencha that is a marvelous reflection of the fine land of Aobe in Kawane.
With very light roasting, the scent of this tea is, naturally, very green at first, but there is also a delicious velvety floral scent, recalling roses. The velvet feeling is also in the mouth, with a very light, clear attack: no astringency or excessive umami, but still the slightly floral scent. Yet, afterwards, this tea leaves a strong sensation in the mouth, with a long, sweet aftertaste.
The aromas of the subsequent, warmer infusions are even richer, with a mixture of floral and citrus scents on a fresh, vegetal background. Finally, a light, elegant astringency appears.
This is a very classical sencha that is a good illustration of the scents of this area of Kawane, elegant, with a very powerful aftertaste and great length.
