Uji-midori is a cultivar developed in Uji, selected from indigenous local tea trees. Like the majority of Kyôto cultivars, it is very rare to find it elsewhere and, with its special aromas, it is, in the end, relatively unusual in Uji also.
Uji-midori is considered a cultivar for shaded tea, but Thés du Japon is offering you an unshaded sencha version.
The first infusion produces a tea with a light, delicate fragrance, in which we perceive essentially creamy notes and very light impressions of aromatic herbs. In the mouth, the liquor is also very delicate, with light umami and very discreet bitterness, barely detectable. The creamy impression is confirmed. However, it is the following infusions that really bring out the rich aromas of this sencha. In the background of the general creamy, milky impression, there are now also floral, bitter almond and tree bark notes, all of which are deliciously present in the aftertaste.
This is a velvety, light green tea, but with depth. It is a sencha that is both typical and rich in the very special aromas of this cultivar, which deserves to be better known.
