Asamiya is one of the tea-producing areas in Shiga Prefecture. Located just north of the famous tea-growing zones of Uji, Wazuka and Uji-tawara, Asamiya also has a long, proud history. It is difficult land with bitterly cold winters, but extremely hilly and conducive to producing very sweet teas.
This sencha by Kitada Takuya is made from the Oku-hikari cultivar, which is rare in Asamiya, where Yabukita is still very dominant.
At first there is a slightly sweet, buttery fragrance, which is typical of teas grown in the Asamiya region. Next, there are spicy, peppery and menthol notes from the Oku-hikari cultivar.
This is a light, fluid sencha, with no astringency. It is very refreshing, with its typical, but not too strong, aromatic character.
