In Ashikita, in Kumamoto Prefecture, Mr. Kajihara mainly produces kama-iri cha, but in recent years he has become very well known for his excellent black teas, which Thés du Japon is offering you in addition to his kama-iri chas.
This black tea is made from a “mishô-zairai” planting, that is, a garden composed not of cultivars but of all different tea trees grown from seeds.
Although it was harvested in the spring, this black tea has very rich, sweet aromas dominated by an impression evoking honey and sweet spices. In the mouth, there is no astringency and we find those sweet aromas, but the mellowness does not become heavy. As it cools, this tea reveals very pleasant, light camphor notes.
Despite the complete absence of any tannic touch, this black tea is very balanced and flavoursome, and expresses its personality most strongly through its wonderful fragrances.
