Located near Wazuka and Uji-tawara, Asamiya is a tea production zone in Shiga Prefecture with an ancient history, yet it is much less better known than its neighbours.
Thés du Japon is offering you a sencha made with the Tsuyu-hikari cultivar, a cross between Asatsuyu and Shizu-7132.
This is a relatively simple sencha that produces an initial impression of mellowness and sweetness in the first infusion. The following infusions recall cooked beans, but then leave a long sweet pleasant sensation in the mouth. On a deeper level, there are also light fruity and floral notes, and a touch of ash recalling Asatsuyu.
This tea is not particularly strong in umami, and it displays no astringency. This is a tea that, loyal to its Asamiya roots, does not begin with an especially strong attack, but remains robust overall, very present in the mouth and in the aftertaste.
