Here is a second-harvest Japanese black tea made with the famous Kôshun variety. It comes from Iwata in Shizuoka.
This fine black summer tea initially displays a sweet fragrance recalling confectionary, with notes of frangipane, but as it cools it develops woody scents, with notes of red berries.
With little or no astringency in the mouth, this Japanese black tea seems light at first, but then a whole bouquet of beautiful aromas opens up on the palate: red berries, dry wood, spices and sweet floral flavours in the aftertaste, which is lengthy and rich.
Kôshun produces a very aromatic green tea but also lends itself marvellously well to black tea, resulting in a tea that marries unique and typical flavours that can be found only in a black tea made in Japan.
