This small tokoname-yaki Japanese teapot made from matt red “shudei” clay is a hand-turned work by Gyokkô. The motifs that decorate it, created using a kind of small wheel, are called “pine bark.”
Its low volume of around 130 ml (4.3 oz) makes it perfect for preparing sencha for one person or gyokuro for two or three people.
Its wide, flat shape enhances the mellowness of tea, and makes this teapot an excellent tool for preparing Japanese teas with beautiful large leaves, such as mountain sencha.
Finally, it is very easy to clean out the leaves after use thanks to the wide opening provided by the lid.
Ceramic filter.
