During the tea ceremony, the powdered matcha tea used for usucha is kept in a lacquer tea caddy known as a natsume.
This one is in lacquerware from Yamanaka (Ishikawa Prefecture), which has been the heart of lacquerware for over 500 years.
The bamboo and paulownia leaf motifs have been entirely hand-painted by maki-e master, Yamashita Taien.

Yamanaka (Kaga City) lacquerware on untreated Japanese cherry wood.
