With a simple, modern design, this red lacquer cup from Echizen brings lacquer ware out of its customary use in traditional Japanese inns, and lends itself perfectly well to drinking various alcohols, Japanese ''nihonshu'' sake, or iced teas.
It has been hand made in the purest tradition of Japanese lacquer by Echizen artisans in Fukui Prefecture. The core is made of very fine wood hardened by lacquer, onto which two layers of polished have been applied. (Both the wood and lacquer are from Japan.)
With warm liquid, the odor of lacquer comes out, but over time it disappears, and this lacquer ware then becomes an elegant cup for all kinds of tea, and for coffee too.

-Before use, wash the cup in warm water, dry it with a very soft cloth, and then leave the cup in a dark, well-aired place for several days. The lacquer smell will disappear completely.
However, with a warm drink, such as tea or coffee, the smell of lacquer will come out again, though it will gradually disappear over time.
-Wash with water and possibly a little dish washing liquid.
-Never rub it with anything abrasive!
-Do not put it in the dishwasher.
-Do not put it on the stove or in the microwave.
