Yoshimoto Shûhô is a famous bizen-yaki potter, a veteran who, after many years of attempts and experimentation, has succeeded in reproducing the anagama reduction firing of ancient Japanese sueki pottery. He has transmitted this knowledge to his son, Yoshimoto Atsuo, many of whose creations are available from Thés du Japon.

While this hôhin teapot was wood fired in an anagama kiln, it was in oxidation, in accordance with the bizen-yaki tradition. It was hand thrown on a hand-powered wheel. The irregular shapes of these works are part of their charm, an aesthetic in perfect harmony with the granular clay and brown and red colours of the decoration, which was produced by the fortune of the flames in the kiln.
Thus, each of these hôhins has a slightly different shape and the decoration and colours vary. The photos show only the general feeling of this series. However, rest assured that they are all splendid objects with obvious artistic qualities.

* These objects are handmade, and since they are wood fired, the shape of the motifs depends on the fortune of the flames. Each one is therefore unique and slightly different from the ones in the photos. Thank you for your understanding.
