“Yôhen” refers to motifs and variations in colours produced in the kiln during firing. The young Japanese bizen-yaki potter, Baba Takashi, uses a wood-fueled noborigama kiln. These cups with sublime variations of purple and round, orange motifs were fired buried in ashes.
They were made of heavy clay containing many small stones, which are especially visible on the unglazed inside of these cups.
Volume of about 100-110 ml (3.4-3.7 oz).

* These cups are handmade, and, owing to the wood firing, it is impossible to obtain exactly the same object twice. This means that the shape, colour and motifs may be noticeably different from the cup in the photo.
