Banko-yaki pottery is known for its purple clay “shidei” teapots, and of course Suigetsu and his oldest son Shimizu Jun are best known for that type of pottery. However, out of a desire to explore new approaches, Shimizu Jun also produces splendid porcelain teapots covered in a very refined blue glaze.
While porcelain kyûsu teapots made in various localities in Japan do not always achieve the same height of finishing as banko-yaki or tokoname-yaki teapots, in this case, Shimizu Jun, as a true “kyûsu shokunin” (artisan specialised in making teapots), has produced a porcelain work of very high quality.
