A banko-yaki artisan, son of a pottery kiln maker and grandson of a fine potter, Yamamoto Taisen’s field of vision goes far beyond the purple clay typical of Banko-yaki. For example, he uses glazes and different types of clay. His work is fine and very light, and, for banko-yaki, the price-quality ratio is excellent.
This is a teapot with the very classical shape known as “Mokubei”, named after Aoki Mokubei, one of the people who played an important role in the development of the sencha ceremony, and who directed kyûsu production. The clay is granular, providing a rough, rustic sensation that contrasts with the lightness and elegance of the shape of this teapot.
