The potter, Iwase Kôji, has had an unusual career. He worked for many years in Tokoname, in the famous Takasuke-tôen workshop, and spent two years as an apprentice in Kyôto, in a Kiyomizu-yaki workshop. He became independent in 1980.
This Japanese kyûsu teapot in white clay is decorated with very elegant yôhen effects produced during firing (thus every piece is different). It has a singular shape, with a straight cut and flat bottom. It can hold 200 ml (6.7 oz), so it is fine for infusions for two people, but its flat bottom also makes it possible to use it for slow infusions with very little water. Light and easy to care for, this teapot is an excellent, multipurpose tool, and very beautiful at the same time.
