A hishaku is a bamboo ustensile that is used to draw water from a kama kettle to make tea, most often for matcha.
Hishakus of different shapes are also found in Shinto shrines. They are used to draw the cold water for purifying one’s hands and mouth before going up to the altar.
This one comes from Ikoma in Nara, and was made by Kubo Sabun.
