The Inzatsu 131 cultivar is a cross between a Japanese variety and Manipuli 15, which was a variety brought from Assam in the early 1920s. Inzatsu 131 is a very distinct variety that was never registered. However, it was crossed with other varieties and is the origin of “inzatsu” cultivars such as Sôfû and Fuji-kaori.
This Inzatsu 131 spring black tea is truly remarkable—not only because of the rarity of the cultivar—but also because the tea was rolled by hand.
It delivers very intense rich fragrances, which are very distinct—yet hard to define. There are initially sweet notes reminiscent of candied plums and dates. It also has nuances of little white flowers with spicy fragrances, which are very typical of Inzatsu 131.
On the palate, the tannins are light and delicate. The aromas are rich, deep and sweet. Here is a black tea that delivers one of the most unique and delectable olfactory and gustatory experiences.
