Inzatsu 131 was obtained from a cross between indigenous Japanese varieties and the Manipuli 15 variety, which was brought from Assam in the early 1920s. The Inzatsu 131 cultivar is rare, is emblematic, and has given such varieties as Sôfû and Fuji-kaori.
As a fan of Inzatsu 131 in all its forms, I am pleased to present the cultivar as a summer black tea.
It is a strongly oxidized, robust, intense black tea that resembles excellent Assam teas. There are also floral, sweet fragrances unique to the Inzatsu 131 cultivar. Additionally, we find notes of plum, dried tomatoes and leather.
In the mouth, the tea is unsurprisingly powerful and slightly tannic. It is reminiscent of fine teas from Assam, but the distinct floral nuances of Inzatsu 131, giving the tea its own unique style.
Finding the unique aromas characteristic of “inzatsu” cultivars in a black tea is a real pleasure and a lovely surprise.
