Izumi

A kama-iri cha cultivar developed in Fukuoka from a Benihomare seed and registered in 1960. Originally designed for kama-iri cha to be exported to North African countries, the fall in Japan’s exports stopped this variety’s development in its tracks. It reappeared recently thanks to the initiative of a producer in Sashima, and Izumi is now raising a lot of interest for black and Oolong tea production, owing to its exceptional aromas of yellow fruit. Time of harvest: mid-season.
