Ripe fruit, port wine, dry wood
Oxidation: ★★★ / Intensity: ★★★
Astringency (tannins): ★★★
The northeastern slope of the Makinohara plateau provides excellent conditions for tea crops. Mr. Imura always produces Benifûki black teas that are simultaneously very robust and very aromatic.
This summer Benifûki delivers a very rich fragrance, evoking sweet vanilla, and cinnamon. It also has woody, peach notes.
The initial attack is powerful and lightly tannic. However, this black tea can also become very astringent if it is infused for too long. The aromas tend to be woody—or even malted—evoking fermented fruit and port.
This robust black tea from Kanaya delivers a rich, deep, and very intense experience.
