Registered in 1969, right before the Japanese government stopped supporting black tea production, Benihikari never experienced the same developments that Benifûki later underwent. Benihikari results from a cross that gives it Japanese, Indian, and Chinese roots. The recent resurgence of black tea production in Japan has led to developments for Benihikari, such as with this tea from Sayama.
This summer tea has an incredible fragrance, simultaneously rich and perfectly representative of Benihikari's characteristics. It has the typical sweet camphor notes, cinnamon nuances, and lemon and yuzu citrus nuances.
It has a powerful attack that is accompanied by the pleasant tannins of summer black teas and by spicy, camphor nuances.
This is a robust black tea with strong character that can be enjoyed with a dash of milk.
Lovers of Sri Lankan and Indian teas are sure to enjoy this black tea, which perfectly exemplifies Benihikari’s great potential. It is completely different from—and complementary to—Benifûki.
