This gyokuro comes from Shirakawa in Uji and was made using Gokô, a local cultivar particularly prized in the production of gyokuro. This is a handpicked harvest using unpruned —shizen-shitate—tea trees. This tea was presented at the tea competition in Uji City, where it won second place.
The infusion offers a very rich, powerful fragrance with notes of berries, vanilla, and baked apples.
On the palate, the tea is obviously very intense. The umami is very strong and refined, but is in no way overwhelming. We first find fruity, fresh aromas with floral nuances. In the mouth, these are followed fig and Gokô’s characteristic berry notes.
Umami and sweet sensations are extremely strong and persistent in the mouth.
Over five or six infusions, the tea always remains rich, fragrant, astringency, and sweet.
Compared to the other Gokô gyokuro that we have offered, this one is even more round and has even richer aromas.
