Benihomare

A black tea cultivar selected at the national research centre in Shizuoka from “tada-inzatsu” tea tree seeds, that is to say, from crosses with tea trees brought back from Assam by Tada Motokichi in 1878. It was the first Japanese black tea, and was registered in 1953. Considered a high quality cultivar, it produces strong black teas, high in tannin, but also sweet. Time of harvest: very late.
