Kuritawase is an early cultivar used mainly on the little islands of Tanegashima and Yakushima, off the coast of Kagoshima. Its origins are ancient, but we know it was selected in Tanegashima from among the shrubs of a “zairai” plantation grown from seeds from Shizuoka.
This sencha offers a fresh, light, milky, green fragrance.
The infusion has relatively strong umami and is lightly astringent. We also find again the Kuritawase cultivar’s wonderful characteristic milky impression and floral nuances. This is a very rich, intense sencha with a wonderfully persistent sweetness.
Subsequent infusions are naturally more astringent and have less umami while retaining the sweet, milky, aromatic intensity and subtle floral notes.
