Arita porcelain from Saga Prefecture is often considered to have the oldest tradition in Japan, beginning in the seventeenth century under the impetus of a potter who had emigrated from Korea. Those porcelain works were subsequently exported to Europe through the port at Imari, which gave its name to this style of Japanese porcelain in the West.

A cup with seigaiha (literally, “waves on the blue sea”) motifs, which express the idea of permanence.
