Tokoname potter Katayama Hakusan, the third to carry the name, excels in mogake motifs. Mogake is a typical Tokoname-yaki technique consisting in creating fine irregular motifs on the clay using “amamo” seaweed wrapped around the object during firing.
In addition, this yusamashi has yôhen effects, also produced during firing, which change the colour of the clay from green to black in places.
