  • Meoto chasen, for the batabata-cha
This bamboo utensil is made of two special chasens attached together. It is meant for preparing batabata-cha from Birudan in Toyama, and it is called a “meoto-chasen”, where “meoto” can be translated as “husband and wife”.
Batabata-cha is a dark tea, in other words, a post-fermented tea, which is prepared boiled. Traditionally, it is served in a bowl with a pinch of salt and beaten into a froth using a meoto chasen.
