The town of Sakuma is located in the mountain tea production region of Tenryû, west of Shizuoka Prefecture. The sencha we offer was grown on the slopes overlooking the fierce Tenryû River. And this cultivar is the famous Kôshun. Kôshun has very distinct characteristics and was developed in Shizuoka from a cross between Kurasawa and Kanaya-midori.
This very fine sencha has a subtle, yet very rich fragrance, which evokes aromatic herbs, evokes marzipan and has tart, floral nuances.
In the mouth, the attack is strong and slightly astringent. This first impression then becomes delicate and has sweet almond aromas. This impression gives way to aromatic herb notes and a pleasant persistence in the mouth. It also has sweetness and a touch of elegant umami.
Subsequent infusions are more fluid, more refreshing, less astringent and are fragrant as long as the tea is allowed to cool. The aromas progressively appear in the aftertaste.
This Kôshun is a refined, complex tea that has a lot of rich richness in the length.
