Uji-Tawara is one of the famous “Uji tea” production areas in Kyôto Prefecture. Sencha, kabuse-cha, and of course gyokuro are produced there.
This is a “true” gyokuro, handpicked from unpruned tea trees on Mr. Shimooka’s shaded plantation.
We find the aromatic power of the famous Gokô cultivar, with strong umami flavour, in both the nose and the mouth. Fruity fragrances, mainly of red fruit, give depth to the dense, rich liquor.
The aftertaste is powerful, with great length in the mouth.
This is a perfect “gateway” tea into the world of authentic Uji gyokuros.
