In Ashikita, Kumamoto Prefecture, we find Mr. Kajihara, a talented producer of kama-iri cha. However, his talent and dedication have also brought him to the forefront of black tea production in Japan.
Thanks to the teachings of a Taiwanese tea specialist, he produces perfectly oxidized black teas with impressive whole leaves, and sweet, complex fragrances.
This Benifûki is a black tea with very mellow, fruity fragrances, recalling apricot, with notes of vanilla and spices. In the mouth, we feel a very delicate, very pleasant astringency, but at the same time the liquor remains mellow, unaggressive. It is in the aftertaste, in the throat and in the length in the mouth that unfold a whole range of rich, fruity, spicy, slightly sweet flavours.
This is a Japanese tea that is already absolutely splendid, but it will become even more impressive as it matures.
