Tsuyu-hikari
A cultivar for sencha developed at the Shizuoka Prefecture research centre, Tsyuyu-hikari was registered in 2003. It is the result of an inspired cross between Shizu-7132 and Asatsuyu. This variety is rich in umami, and has spicy aromas that are sometimes reminiscent of sakura-mochi, a characteristic it inherited from Shizu-7132, but that are sometimes more green, evoking Asatsuyu instead. Tsuyu-hikari has become very popular. Time of harvest: slightly early.
