Kuritawase is an early cultivar used mainly on the little islands of Tanegashima and Yakushima, off the coast of Kagoshima. Its origins are ancient, but we know it was selected in Tanegashima from among the shrubs of a “zairai” plantation grown from seeds from Shizuoka.
Made using the Kuritawase cultivar, this sencha has a pleasant sweet, milky fragrance with fresh vegetal nuances.
On the palate, the infusion is very round and velvety. The umami is very present, but not excessive. And while this tea is devoid of any astringency, it is also balanced. The aromas are slightly fruity, but predominantly milky, emphasizing the velvety character of the infusion. The aftertaste is fresh and vegetal.
This Kurita-wase sencha is relatively light, but—above all—it is very accessible and easy to drink. And, despite of the tea’s strong character, it is sure to appeal to a wide audience. The tea delivers three very good infusions, which always have the same milky, velvety tendency.
