Born in 1938, Isobe Teruyuki began working at the Takasuke workshop in Tokoname in 1954. He continued there until 2007 when he began working on his own.
He makes fine, light teapots and has a unique sense of style. He is now one of the most renowned Tokoname potters.
His flat “hiragata” teapots are particularly adapted to preparing futsumushi style senchas and gyokuros. These teapots provide easy control over the temperature of infusions and allow the leaves to open up even when there is very little water. They are also particularly well suited to the preparation of teas with a lot of umami.
These teapots are decorated “inka” motifs.
